Kept in the drawer, not sold

Policy
What I write down about you, why I need it, and who ever sees it. It is a small shop — the honest answer to most of this is “your name, your number, and what needs hemming”.
Last updated 4 September 2026
The short version
I keep what I need to do your alterations and to reach you about them: your name, your phone number, sometimes an email address, your measurements and notes about the garment. I do not sell it, rent it, or hand it to anybody for their advertising. Your mobile number and your consent to receive text messages are never shared with anyone for marketing, full stop.
The rest of this page is the same thing said carefully.

This policy covers the shop’s customer records and this website, tailoringbymonica.com.
What I write down
- Who you are and how to reach you — name, mobile or home phone number, and an email address if you give one.
- Your order — the garment, the work agreed, the price, the dates it came in and goes out, fitting appointments, and my notes and measurements for the alteration.
- Whether you asked for text updates — a yes or no recorded against your order, with the date. See piece 04.
- Payment — that the ticket was paid and how. Card details go straight through the card terminal to the payment processor; I do not see or keep your card number.
- Photographs of finished garments, when I have asked and you have agreed.
- Messages you send me — texts, emails and voicemails about your order.
All of this comes from you, in the shop or over the phone. I do not buy customer lists and I do not build profiles of anybody.
Your mobile number and text-message consent
When you leave a garment, I ask whether you would like text updates about it. If you say yes, your mobile number and that consent are recorded against your order in the shop’s customer records. Consent is not a condition of any purchase or service.
Those numbers are used for one thing: service messages about your own order — that it is ready for pickup, a fitting reminder or confirmation, and questions I need answered to finish the work. No marketing, no promotions, no newsletters.
The promise on mobile data
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties. Mobile numbers are shared only with the messaging provider that delivers the message on the shop’s behalf, and only in order to send you the message you asked for.
You can stop the messages at any time: reply STOP to any of them, tell me at the counter, or call (630) 885-9070. Reply HELP for help. Full programme details — frequency, cost, opt-in wording — are in piece 08 of the Terms.
Please do not send card numbers or other sensitive details by text; it is not a secure channel.
What I use it for
- Doing the work you asked for, and getting the fit right.
- Reaching you about your order — by phone, and by text if you asked for it.
- Taking payment and keeping the shop’s books and tax records.
- Looking up your past alterations and measurements when you come back, so a returning customer does not start from scratch.
- Showing finished work in the gallery, where you have agreed to it.
I do not use your details for automated decision-making, advertising or profiling.
This website
The site is a set of plain pages. There is no login, no shopping cart, no contact form and no payment. I do not run analytics, advertising tags or tracking cookies on it, and the site itself sets no cookies.
Three things are loaded from other companies, and your browser talks to them directly when a page opens, which means they can see your IP address and browser details:
- Google Fonts — the typefaces the pages are set in.
- A public code CDN — the styling library the pages use.
- Google Maps — the embedded map on the contact page. Google may set its own cookies in that frame under its own privacy policy. If the map is blocked, a plain address card shows instead and nothing is loaded.
The company hosting the site keeps ordinary server logs (IP address, page requested, time) for security and troubleshooting.
How long I keep it
- Order and contact records — while you are a customer and for a few years afterwards, so measurements and past work can be looked up when you return.
- Payment and tax records — as long as tax law requires.
- Text-message consent, and a record of any STOP — kept as long as I may text you, and the record of an opt-out is kept afterwards so that you are not messaged again by mistake.
- Photographs — until you ask me to take them down.
Keeping it safe
Paper tickets stay in the shop. Digital records are kept in password-protected accounts that only I and anyone helping me in the shop can open. No system is perfect, but the amount of information here is small and deliberately kept that way.
Your choices
Ask me and I will do any of the following, free of charge:
- Tell you what I hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong — a changed number, a misspelt name.
- Delete your details, once there is no open order and no record I must keep for tax.
- Stop texting you, or start again.
- Take a photograph of your garment out of the gallery.
Call (630) 885-9070, email tailoringbymonica@gmail.com, or just come in. I may ask a question or two to be sure it is really you. You will never be treated differently for asking.
Children
The shop happily alters children’s clothes, but the order is placed by a parent or guardian and their details are the ones on the ticket. This website is not directed at children, and I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this changes, the new version goes up here with a new date at the top. Nothing about how your mobile number is used will change without you being told.
